Hugh Mills began his funeral business in 1806 although like a great many funeral firms at that time, his main business was building. Looking after the great houses of people like the Singer family (sewing machines) and wealthy tobacco merchants.
Later amalgamating with William (Bill) Gaye they decided to concentrate exclusively on funeral directing.
Walter C. Parson Ltd took over the running of HUGH MILLS & GAYE in July 2006, re-opening the Babbbacombe office in October of that same year.
Following a complete refurbishment, Kings House was opened in October 2009, offering the very best facilities to families in the Newton Abbot area.
The present team consist of Darren Lapthorn, Area Manager, Harold Quick, Harriet Sams & Nick Parker.

Darren Lapthorn
Darren joined us in 2002. He obtained his National Association of Funeral Directors Diploma in 2006 and is Area Manager for Newton Abbot and Torquay.

Harold has had many years experience in the funeral profession and continues to look after families in our Torquay and Newton Abbot offices.
